My background I was raised in Wisconsin and left for Australia at the age of eighteen. I’ve spent almost all of my adult life in Australia and in England. I attained both a Bachelors and Masters degree and have been a graphic designer as well as a full-time university professor of Design for many years in both of these countries.
My most recent work My background in graphic design, jewelry-making, beadwork, sewing, knitting and hand-coloring original black and white photographs has all contributed to my latest work.
Fabric Poetry ::: Art that stays with you: Carry a unique piece of fabric art with you wherever you go. My handbags are designed and made by me. The inspiration for these bags comes from my favourite artists and from the landscape in which I live. They are made of cotton, silk and wool fabric and are fully lined with pockets. I also make cases to preventyour reading glasses from being scratched.
Fabric Poetry ::: From rugs to rug art: A traditional rag rug making technique is revived and my designs give it new life. These fabric tapestry rugs are made of 100% cotton and, believe it or not, most use approximately 550 yards of 1 1/2 inch wide fabric strip that has been sewn and then double-folded by hand. This minimizes the raw edge you often see in these types of rugs, giving my work a much smoother appearance. Because I work the fabric in a ‘spiral’ format, my original designs are enhanced by the circular (versus linear) movement created as I craft my rugs. The entire process takes a considerable amount of time but is well worth the effort as it elevates the work to tapestry art.
